DESCRIPTION:On Wednesday\, March 1\, join fellow youth ages 14-20 to learn about different learning styles\, what educational options are available to you and how to create education goals for yourself. We’ll be sharing information adapted from the Project LIFE curriculum. We’ll have free snacks and toiletries available\, too. (Please let us know if you have any dietary restrictions. We want to make sure we have options for everyone.) \nALL Kansas youth ages 14 to 20 who are currently experiencing or have experienced out of home placement (foster care) via KS DCF\, KDOC-JS or Tribal Authority are invited to participate. All case plan goals are welcome! \nI’ll be there! How do I RSVP?\nPlease note we now have RSVP deadlines the prior Friday for each RYAC meeting. Email Kimberly Duncan at kduncan@kvc.org by Friday\, February 27 to RSVP. \nWhen you RSVP please put in the subject line the date of RYAC you are wanting to attend. This helps us ensure we have an accurate count\, so we do not cancel an event due to low RSVP. \nExample subject line: “3/1/23 RYAC” \n\nWhat is RYAC?\nRegional Youth Advisory Councils (RYAC) provide youth an opportunity to meet new friends\, learn new life skills and visit with other peers in foster care. It provides the opportunity to become a Kansas Youth Advisory Council (KYAC) member if they so choose. Prize drawings occur on occasion. \nMeetings educate youth on a variety of independent living topics to help them learn & understand life skills to gain independence and self-sufficiency as they transition to becoming successful adults. Topics for RYAC include: substance abuse\, ACT & college prep\, money management\, employment & career planning\, locating housing\, navigating car ownership\, self-care\, health care\, as well as many more!

DESCRIPTION:September 30 – October 1\, 2022\nWe’re excited to announce this year’s Resource Family Conference will be held in-person on September 30 and October 1\, 2022! This is a wonderful opportunity for Resource Families (which includes relatives and foster families) to come together for a fun weekend on us. We will be providing hotel rooms at the Double Tree Hotel in Overland Park for out-of-town caregivers (those who live more than 60 miles from the hotel)\, dinner on Friday night\, and Saturday at the Kansas City Zoo with lunch provided. \nWhile we typically use the RFC to provide helpful training\, this year we want to focus on support and appreciation because we can provide a wide range of CEU options virtually and in-person throughout the year to meet your training needs. \nAdditional details:\nFriday Night\n\nWe have rooms reserved at the Double Tree In Overland Park for out-of-town foster parents (those who live more than 60 miles from the hotel). These rooms are on a first-come\, first-serve basis. The hotel is offering a discounted rate if you’d like to stay an additional night: $129 for a double room and $119 for a king room (this additional night won’t be covered by KVC).\nDinner Friday night is at the Double Tree. ALL Resource Families are welcome to dinner (in-town and out-of-town).\nRegistration bags\, a give-away room\, community booths\, games and prizes will be available for attendees.\nNo childcare will be provided\, but this is a family-friendly dinner\n\nSaturday\n\nWe have complimentary tickets for your whole family to the Kansas City Zoo\nKVC will be providing lunch for your family from 11:30am to 2pm with a special guest appearance from a face painter for the kids!\nFamilies can come and go as they please from the zoo. This year’s event kicks off National Foster Care Month\, and we have tons planned to show you our appreciation! \nAdditional details:\n\nWe will also be hosting five virtual social hours on April 30\, May 6\, May 11\, May 19 and May 24 hosted by KVC staff from 7-8 PM each night. To join\, please use Zoom meeting ID- 983 311 6610. Trunk participants will be wearing mask and sanitizing regularly or wearing gloves. Unfortunately this year we will not be providing food other than the candy due to COVID. We hope to see everyone here!!
