This unique\, FREE family experience is open to all KVC-supported resource families and will take place August 25–26\, 2023 at the Sheraton in Overland Park\, KS. This event is a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for KVC foster\, adoptive and kinship families caring for children and teens experiencing foster care. Plus\, we’re back fully in-person for the FIRST TIME since 2018! \nAttendees learn from child and family experts\, receive continuing education trainings\, and network with other resource families to create an invaluable support network. While parents and caregivers participate in trainings\, youth enjoy fun\, age-appropriate activities. Instead of teaching one way to respond\, we help parents find alternatives that work for their families in responding to their teens in ways that support healthy relationships\, while setting limits and helping the teen be successful.\nBefore parents begin a Connect group\, they have the chance to meet with the group leaders to learn more about how the group works and whether this is a good fit for them.\n\nAfter participating in this group\, caregivers report feeling less stressed and more equipped to parent effectively. DESCRIPTION:Date: Mondays\, 4pm to 5:30pm \nVirtual \nThis training is a 9-week attachment-based group for foster parents of preteens and teens. Teen Connect is an evidence-based group program for birth parents\, caregivers and foster parents who would like to find ways to improve their relationships with their preteens and teens. Adolescence can be a stressful time\, as youth strive for greater independence\, and yet still need the support and guidance of their parents. Building or rebuilding stronger connections with their teens helps parents find new ways to effectively navigate these challenges. \nAfter taking the group\, parents report feeling less stressed and more effective in parenting. They also see fewer behavior problems and improved social functioning in their teens. \n\n97% of parents felt better equipped to understand their child.\n95% of parents felt better equipped to understand themselves as a parent.\n86% of parents saw positive changes in their relationship with their teens as a result of applying what they learned.\n\nRequirements: \n\nParents can be from any area or county\nParents must have at least one child over the age of 12\nA maximum of two sessions can be missed before you are dropped from the course and no credit given.\n\nTo register\, contact Jamie Kelsey\, jkelsey@kvc.org (913)558-7071 or fill out this form:

DESCRIPTION:The need for safe\, loving foster homes is at an all-time high. As a result\, we’re excited to present the option to begin your journey to becoming a foster or adoptive parent from the comfort of your own home. \nThis FREE training course will provide you with all the trauma-informed information and education required from the State of Kansas to become a licensed foster and/or adoptive home. Each one of these classes is virtual\, which means you can complete them from the safety of your home via a weekly Zoom meeting. \nThis course is required to foster or adopt but also has many exciting features! It will help you build a toolbox of knowledge as you help children in need who have experienced trauma\, it is live instructor led by agency workers and foster parents to provide you with lots of tools in your foster care journey\, as well as access to lots of additional trainings you can do independently at any time!
