SUMMARY:Connect Parent Group – Virtual Class
DESCRIPTION:Parents\, are you looking to understand your child or teen better? Want to learn how to better connect with them? Sign up for a free Connect Parent Group! \nCaring for youth in this age range can be stressful as they strive for greater independence and yet still need their caregivers’ support and guidance. Building or rebuilding strong connections helps caregivers find new ways to effectively navigate any challenges. This free\, evidence-based class will help caregivers improve their relationships with youth ages 8-18 through weekly virtual meetings over the course of 10 weeks. \nClass details:\nOnce a week from Tuesday\, May 23 to Tuesday\, July 18 between 5-6:30pm. \nEmail Julie Gerber at jgerber@kvc.org to learn more and register.\n  \nWhat Happens in Connect Parent Group?\n\nParents and caregivers meet in small groups with two trained group leaders for 90 minutes a week for 10 weeks\nEach week focuses on a new principle related to adolescent development and the parent-teen relationship\nParents watch role plays\, try activities\, and join in discussions that help them understand and respond to  challenging behaviors problems.\nParents receive a handout at each session with key points to remember when applying the principles in their own relationship.\nConnect recognizes that each parent and teen relationship is different. Instead of teaching one way to respond\, we help parents find alternatives that work for their families in responding to their teens in ways that support healthy relationships\, while setting limits and helping the teen be successful.\nBefore parents begin a Connect group\, they have the chance to meet with the group leaders to learn more about how the group works and whether this is a good fit for them.\n\nAfter participating in this group\, caregivers report feeling less stressed and more equipped to parent effectively. Children in their care also experience fewer behavior problems and demonstrate improved social functioning. \nEmail Julie Gerber at jgerber@kvc.org to learn more and register.
