SUMMARY:Want to Foster or Adopt? Get Started With This Flexible Class Option | Deciding Together
DESCRIPTION:The need for safe\, loving foster homes is at an all-time high\, and we’re excited to present a convenient option to begin your journey to becoming a foster or adoptive parent. \nWith the ability of virtual learning\, we can offer you a small group foster parent training class called Deciding Together (DT). This class pairs you with a professional who will provide you with all the trauma-informed information and education required from the state of KS to become a licensed foster home. \nThis class can be more flexible to meet the needs of work schedules and family life! We have a few options for this course coming up in August and September. \nThis format has all of the same information and education that’s contained in our TIPS-MAPP classes\, but these are tailored to meet your needs in a more personal setting in this time of continued social distancing and health precautions. \nHow Does It Work? \nThis course will take 7 individual meetings at about 2.5 hours each time. In each session\, your DT leader will go over a book (sent electronically) to cover all content and provide group discussion and feedback. This can all be done virtually through online meetings in the comfort and safety of your own home. Internet access and phone and web-camera accessories will be required so that we can visually see both you and your home. If technology is a barrier for you\, please let us know\, and we can look at other training options. \nTo enroll or discuss your options further\, please contact Kim Edwards at 913-444-2195 or kiedwards@kvc.org.
