Want to Foster or Adopt? Take the First Step with These Weekend Training Classes – Ottawa

November 17, 2018 - November 18, 2018

improve child welfare

One of the first and most important steps to becoming a licensed foster or adoptive parent is to complete TIPS-MAPP classes (Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety and Permanence – Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting). These classes are designed to prepare you to care for a child who may have experienced trauma and to provide you with many other supportive skills in your journey as a foster or adoptive parent. This course can now be attended and completed in two weekends! This training is offered at no cost to participants.

Class size is limited, so please call or email the organizer listed below for more details. The next TIPS-MAPP classes are listed below. The training is offered by KVC at no cost to participants.  The class will be offered at the Ottawa KVC office, 416 S Main, Ottawa, KS 66067.

Class dates and times are as follows:

  • November 17th 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM Lunch will be provided
  • November 18th 1:00 PM – 7:00 PM (snacks will be provided)

These classes are mandatory and must be completed before you may be considered for placement of children through foster care or adoption. Both parents must attend if there are two parents involved. Any person 18 years or older who lives in the home and shares parenting responsibilities must be MAPP trained. Participants MUST attend all sessions in order to complete the course. Two home visits will be completed in the 3 week span.

If you have questions or wish to enroll, please contact Kalyn Thayer at 913-302-3945 or kthayer@kvc.org. We look forward to seeing you.
