Want to Foster or Adopt? Take the First Step with TIPS-MAPP Training – Topeka

One of the first and most important steps to becoming a licensed foster or adoptive parent is to complete TIPS-MAPP classes (Trauma Informed Partnering for Safety and Permanence – Model Approach to Partnerships in Parenting). These classes are designed to prepare you to care for a child who may have experienced trauma and to provide you with many other supportive skills in your journey as a foster or adoptive parent.

The next classes are scheduled to begin on Tuesday, September 3, 2019. The training is offered by KVC at no cost to participants.The class will be offered at the Topeka KVC office at 419 SW 29th St Topeka KS.

The sessions will be as follows:

  • Sept 3 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Sept 10 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Sept 17 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Sept 24 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Oct 1 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Oct 8 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Oct 15 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Oct 22 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Oct 29 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM
  • Nov 5 – 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM

These classes are mandatory and must be completed before you may be considered for placement of children through foster care or adoption. Both parents must attend if there are two parents involved. Any person 18 years or older who lives in the home and shares parenting responsibilities must be MAPP trained. It is necessary to attend all sessions in order to complete the course.
