Families Celebrate Bringing Their Children Safely Home After Foster Care

families celebrate

Families often face tremendous challenges that are difficult to overcome, resulting in their children entering foster care. In these cases, families need the support of caring professionals to be reunified with their children. The month of June is National Family Reunification Month, a time dedicated to celebrating families who worked successfully towards reunification.

KVC Kansas recently hosted three Fifth Annual Families United events in Eastern Kansas, Topeka and Iola. These events celebrated and honored families who were able to reunify with their children after being in foster care, as well as families who have provided permanent, safe homes through custodianship. This year, over 100 people who received Aftercare and Family Preservation services enjoyed free meals, family pictures, face painting and more! Families were also able to enter a raffle for tickets to the Kansas City Zoo, a Royals game, gift cards, toys and bikes!

The recipient of KVC’s Award for Outstanding Commitment to Children and Families was Dwight Alexander, an attorney from Wyandotte County who frequently helps children stay with their families and achieve legal permanency.

Thank you to all the families who attended!
