Children and teens belong with their own families whenever possible. KVC works to safely reintegrate hundreds of families each year by providing parenting skills training, therapy and other support.

Holiday Hero FAQs
At KVC, we believe that every child, teenager, and family involved in the child welfare system deserves a brighter holiday season. Our Holiday Heroes Program is a heartfelt initiative that brings individuals, families, community groups and businesses together to make a profound impact.
As a Holiday Hero, you’re not just giving gifts during the holiday season – you’re offering lasting hope and happiness to those who need it most. Your generosity is the key to creating unforgettable memories and making children’s dreams come true. We understand you may have questions, and this page is here to provide the answers you need to become a Holiday Hero.
Holiday Hero Frequently Asked Questions
Anything you can do to help! By sponsoring multiple kids, donating gift cards, or volunteering your time – there is always a way to help children and families in need. If you don’t have a preference of who you sponsor, we will send you our biggest need at that time.
If you aren’t able to sponsor a child or family’s wishlist, consider donating an item or two from our Amazon wish list. The items will automatically ship to KVC’s office and you’ll bring a smile to a child’s face.
Every child we serve fills out a “wish list” where they choose 4-8 gifts they would like to receive this year. We ask each child to keep their requests under a reasonable amount ($40). Then, Holiday Heroes use that list to choose gifts to purchase and donate. We truly appreciate anything you can do.
If you don’t think you’re able to provide gifts for a child or family this year, no worries! Here are a few more ways you can help:
- Donate gift cards to specific stores like Target, Target, Wal-Mart, American Eagle, forever 21, PINK, Nike, Game Stop, Amazon. We use these in last-minute bags for children in foster care.
- If you want to donate gift cards, please drop them off at or mail them to your local KVC office. See our locations at kvckansas.org/locations.
- Purchase items from our Amazon wish list and they’ll ship directly to our office for distribution to kids in need.
- Make a donation online and our staff will do the shopping for you. Head to kvckansas.org/donate.
Whether you sign up to provide gifts, donate gift cards or donate online, you’ll ensure a child or family in need has a great holiday season!
We love toy drives! It’s always very helpful to have extra gifts for kids that come into care close to the holidays or kids that do not get sponsored. We make sure every child we serve can experience the joy of the holiday season and this is one way you can help us do that!

We suggest you make the best decisions you can to fill in the gaps. We try to give you a little info about the child you’re shopping for such as their favorite color and some of their interests/hobbies so you can add some filler items. If you can’t purchase additional items, the child’s case manager will add items to the bag later.

We ask that you don’t wrap the gifts for a couple reasons. The biggest reason is because our team needs to see what each child is getting. Another reason is because the families caring for these children often like to wrap the gifts themselves so the gifts match.
No problem! We ask that you drop off donations to an office as soon as you can, so our team has plenty of time to get all the gifts delivered to the kids and families we serve. If you need more time or received your info after the drop-off date, just get it to the office as soon as you can. If you need more info, you can call your local office.
