What Is the Mockingbird Family™ Model?

Fostering a child is a wonderful thing to do, but many families feel like they are all alone. It can be hard to face big challenges without help nearby. The Mockingbird Family Model fixes this by creating a “micro-community” for foster parents. Instead of doing the work by yourself, you are part of a small, supportive team. This design makes sure you always have a neighbor to turn to for advice, a break, or just someone who understands.

To put it simply, a Mockingbird Constellation is a small group of foster homes that work together. It looks like this:

• 1 Hub Home: An experienced foster family who leads the group.
• Up to 10 Satellite Homes: Other foster families (like yours) who live nearby and are part of the circle.

This group has three main goals:

• Stopping burnout: Making sure foster parents have enough support so they don’t feel like quitting.
• Keeping kids in one home: Helping children stay in the same home longer by giving parents the help they need.
• Connecting to birth families: Helping children stay safely connected to their biological families.

These groups work together just like a close-knit neighborhood where everyone looks out for one another.
