Mockingbird Family Model
What Is the Mockingbird Family™ Model?
The Mockingbird Family™ model is a community-based approach to foster care. It brings together a group of foster families—called a Constellation—to support one another and the children and teens in their care. The goal is to create a close-knit, extended family feel that benefits everyone involved, including biological families.
Families in a Constellation meet regularly, share experiences, and provide one another with practical and emotional support. This model recognizes that caring for children is a community effort, and when caregivers have strong support, children experience more stability and connection.
At the center of each Constellation is a Hub Home, which acts as a resource and support to the other foster families in the group. The Hub Home helps organize gatherings, offers short-term care when needed, and helps strengthen relationships among all families involved.
How This Helps Your Child
- Consistency and stability: Your child is surrounded by caring adults who communicate and work together to meet their needs.
- Stronger connections: Mockingbird helps children stay in familiar environments and maintain relationships with siblings and supportive adults.
- A sense of belonging: Constellations create opportunities for shared meals, activities, and celebrations that help your child feel part of a caring community.
- Culturally aware care: Constellations reflect the diverse families and communities they serve, helping each child feel understood and valued.
How This Supports You
- A circle of support for your child. The Constellation model strengthens the network of people working toward your child’s success and wellbeing.
- Stability throughout your family’s journey. When foster parents have strong support, children are more likely to remain in one stable home while you work toward reunification.
- Ongoing communication and partnership. Mockingbird encourages collaboration and shared understanding among everyone caring for your child.
The Mockingbird Family™ model helps create a community of care that supports children, foster parents, and biological families alike—so every child can grow surrounded by stability, connection, and compassion.
